What Happens After We Die? An Article by Hepsi
August 2019
You have a nice job and a comfortable house. You earn good wages, enjoy good health, great food, and you live in a safe neighbourhood. That’s great. It is definitely an important part of life.
However, we do not live on earth permanently. Our life on earth is temporary. We do not know how long we will live either. Do you remember your grandfather or grandmother, or your father or mother who lived so energetically before your eyes? You loved their company. Their deeds, treats, the valuable advice, and the words of wisdom? Suddenly one day your loved one is no more. I’m sure you have had this experience. I did. There is a great finality to death.
Friends, we need to think about death just as we think of life. What happens after death? Is there life beyond the grave? Is death the end of everything? Do we return to the dust? No. The spirit within us is like a diamond ring encased in a jewelry box. The spirit inside the body goes to heaven or hell. The body is just an outer shell.
Yes, there is life after death. You get to spend your life either in heaven or in hell. These are two real places. You can have a beautiful future after death if you go to heaven. It’s a special place prepared by God for his children. The Bible says that there are mansions in heaven with pavements of gold, a place of unimaginable beauty and joy. However, if one doesn’t get there, there is another place one might end up in, that is hell. The Bible warns us that it’s a place of torment, suffering and weeping.
How do we know?
To find out how to get to heaven after death, we need to understand the life and teaching of Jesus. The Bible says that God sent his Son Jesus to show us the way to go to heaven. If you would like to know more about Jesus, the Savior of mankind, you need to read the New Testament. The first four books of the New Testament also known as the gospels inform you of the birth, life, teaching and the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. He came to the earth to save us from our sins. Whether we commit sins big or small, we are all sinners. Sometimes we hurt people, sometimes we indulge in bad thoughts or deeds, we act out of greed, anger, jealousy or utter selfishness and intolerance. There are many sins including lying, cheating and other forms of rebellion. God is holy. Only he has the power to forgive our sins.
Therefore, God sent his only Son, Jesus, to the earth to save us from our sins. The Bible says ‘for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,’ Romans 3: 23. We need to confess our sins to God. The Bible has the answers to your questions. The Bible is also called the Bread of life. How does Jesus save us from our sins? How did he make a way to heaven? If you would like to find out how to go to heaven you need to know the truth. The Bible says, ‘You shall know the truth and the truth will set you free.’ John 8:32.
What or who is the truth?
The Bible says Jesus is the way to heaven. Jesus claimed that he was the way, the truth and the life. Jesus is the giver of life. How did he give us life? Jesus is the lamb of God. He came to the earth from heaven, led a sinless life and offered his holy body as a sacrifice on the cross for the forgiveness of our sins. Yes, He paid the price for our sins. He lay down his life for us and rose again, so we could have eternal life through him. His precious blood was shed to wash our dirty sins away. Jesus gives you a new life if you believe in him. So, Jesus, who is the way, the truth and the life, is our hope and the way to heaven. Therefore, to enjoy a great future in heaven we need to make the right choice on earth.
How did sin enter humanity in the first place? When did God reveal himself to humankind? Such questions naturally rise in our minds.
Although there are many man-made gods on earth that people worship, the Bible reveals that there is only one God. He is the true and living God. He revealed himself since ancient times to the Hebrew people. Here is some background information of God revealing himself to people in ancient times. In the book of Isaiah (Old Testament) of the Bible, God reveals himself as the only God:
“This is what the LORD says— Israel’s King and Redeemer, the LORD Almighty: I am the first and I am the last; apart from me there is no God.” Isaiah 44:6
The ancient Hebrews called the Living God, Yahweh or Jehovah. He is the Father. The prophet Isaiah also wrote that the Living God, Yahweh, will send his Son into the world to save people from their sins. He foretells the birth of God’s Son, Jesus Christ in these words:
‘For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.’ Isaiah 9:6.
Yahweh means, “I AM”, which means that ‘God absolutely is.’ He is the Living God who created all things. A clear picture of God’s creation, particularly the creation of man and woman, is found in the first few chapters of Genesis, the first book of the Bible. You will find the account of our first parents, Adam and Eve, how they disobeyed God’s instruction and faced the consequences. God created man and woman in the perfect state, also gave them free will. No sin was present in them. However, they rebelled against the Creator at the prompting of Satan. Therefore, sin entered through disobedience contaminating both humans and creation.
Thus, they were sent out of Eden, a paradise like place, God had created specifically for mankind. They were sent into the wilderness where they had to work hard to survive. As a result of their rebellion evil gained entrance into the world.
The first five books of the Bible namely, Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, and Deuteronomy were written by the great prophet of God, Moses. God revealed himself to Moses as the great “I AM”. God sent Moses to deliver his people from slavery. Moses was a prophet, leader and deliverer who led the children of Israel from bondage in Egypt to the promised land to enjoy a life of freedom and plenty. Moses said, ‘The Lord your God will raise up for you a prophet like me from among your own people; you must listen to everything he tells you.’ See Acts 3: 22. Moses referred to Jesus.
Fast forward, to another book, you see a different important prophet, Isaiah. He too was called by God like Moses. Isaiah foretold of the coming Messiah (the anointed one and the deliverer), he wrote about the birth of Jesus, the Son of God, to a virgin. Jesus would bring salvation to all people. He wrote:
‘Therefore, the Lord himself will give you a sign: The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and will call him Immanuel.’ Isaiah 7:14
The name Immanuel denotes, “God with us.” The Son of God, Jesus, was born in the flesh. He came to live among people briefly, to show them the way to heaven. He came with the purpose to save us and establish peace between God and man. Jesus repaired the broken relationship between God and human beings. Therefore, we acknowledge Jesus as our Saviour, Redeemer, and the Prince of Peace.
Exactly at the right time, as Isaiah foretold, an angel of God appears to Joseph, a young man engaged to be married to a young girl, Mary. Before they had married the young woman was pregnant. Joseph decided to quietly break the engagement. However, an angel from God appears to him in a dream and says these words:
‘But after he had considered this, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream and said, “Joseph son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary home as your wife, because what is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit. She will give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins.”’ Matthew 1: 20,21.
In this way, Jesus, the Son of God, and our Savior was born to Mary and Joseph (earthly parents) just as Isaiah had foretold. He was conceived by the Holy Spirit. Jesus grew up as an obedient oldest son to his parents. As a young man he worked as a carpenter, he began his ministry later teaching about God’s Kingdom on earth.
“The time has come,” he said. “The kingdom of God has come near. Repent and believe the good news!” Mark 1: 15. Till today Jesus is asking people to repent, to turn away from their sinful ways and receive him into their hearts. Jesus delivers us from being slaves to sin to receive a brand-new life of peace and freedom in him.
What did Jesus’ ministry comprise of?
Jesus taught us about love. He taught people to love God and to love others as themselves. He brought love, compassion, humility, gentleness, peace, mercy and forgiveness into our hurting world. He healed people of all kinds of diseases, cast out demons, and he raised the dead to life. He brought deliverance to the oppressed. Till this day, Jesus heals and delivers people the same way. There is great power in the name of Jesus. The Bible says Jesus is the same yesterday, today, and forever. Jesus never fails.
Eventually, Jesus offered his life as a sacrifice for the sins of all mankind. He took the punishment for our sins on the cross. His blood was shed to wash away the sins of mankind. God’s great plan of salvation is revealed in these words:
‘For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.’ John 3:16.
What is Salvation you might ask?
To put it simply, salvation is freedom from the effects of the Fall of Man (remember that our first parents were sent out of the garden of Eden because of rebellion, they lost the paradise God had created for them.) Jesus is the great deliverer that God had promised. This freedom comes through faith in Jesus, who is called “the author of eternal salvation unto all them that obey him.” Hebrews 5:9.
Did Jesus die on the cross out of his own will?
Yes, Jesus died on the cross willingly. He foretold of his death before his crucifixion to his disciples a few times. Bad people put this holy man from Heaven to death. We call this day, Good Friday. His body was taken down by his disciples and buried. But he did not stay buried, he rose from the dead victoriously on the third day! Jesus conquered the grave and death. We call the glorious resurrection day, Easter!
When Jesus rose from the dead, he appeared to his disciples and followers. The resurrected Jesus then walked, talked and ate with his disciples. When they saw their beloved teacher was alive, they praised God. Jesus ascended into heaven to His Father after 40 days, after which he sent the Holy Spirit upon his disciples and followers that empowered them to proclaim him. (God is One in three persons, called the Trinity, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit).
The eyewitnesses of Jesus wrote about his life, death and resurrection in the four books of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John. Moreover, he lives in the hearts of all his believers. Jesus is alive today!
The risen Jesus gave his disciples this command: ‘Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore, go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.’ Matthew 28: 18-20. This is a command to share Jesus with people.
Therefore, the Living God sent Jesus to the earth with the divine purpose of saving us from our sins and to grant us the everlasting life of joy in heaven. Therefore, Jesus is the way to heaven. If you believe in Jesus, you could receive him into your heart right now. Receive Jesus into your heart today and enjoy a life of fulfilment and get a free ticket to heaven (because he paid the price for it with his life). Please say this prayer meaningfully. You can shut the door in your room, say this prayer quietly. God hears you.
Dear Lord Jesus, Please forgive my sins. I know I’m a sinner. I believe you took the punishment for my sins on the cross. Thank you for loving me so much. I receive you into my heart today. I believe that through your death, burial and resurrection you have given me eternal life. From today I’m your child and you are my God. Help me to learn more about you by reading the Bible and praying in your name. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
After you say this prayer be assured your sins are forgiven. When you receive Jesus into your heart, the Holy Spirit comes to live within you and guides you into clean living. You have become a child of God from today. The greatest miracle is the miracle of salvation. You are now united with Jesus Christ. He watches over your life. Talk to him in prayer daily, soon after you wake up, just before you go to bed, or any time of the day. Isn’t that wonderful? You will experience such love, joy and peace as you have never experienced before. Congratulations!
What does a new life in Jesus mean? Its a new beginning. We do experience the ups and downs of life like every body does. However, the good news is now you are not alone. Jesus loves you; he can be your best friend. You enjoy many benefits as his child. You can take your matters to Jesus in prayer. I do it, it works. Yes, Jesus can fix any problem. He brings the right people into your life. The Holy Spirit within guides you gently. The Word of God comforts and informs you. Reading the Bible gives you wisdom and the spirit of discernment. Finally, you can live a life of victory in Jesus. Welcome to the family of God!
May God bless you and give you a fruitful life in Jesus!

Who is Jesus?
- Article by Hepsi
Scripture reveals that Jesus is the incarnate Son of God. The Second person of the Trinity. The Christian Godhead is one God in three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Also known as the Holy Trinity. One God in three persons is namely the Father, the Son (Jesus Christ) and the Holy Spirit. God took on a human body and everything that is human and became both man and God. Therefore, Jesus is both man and God.
You will find several definitions of Jesus in Scripture, here are some of them: The Son of the Most High, the Saviour, the Redeemer, the Deliverer, the Good Shepherd, the great Physician, the Name above every name, the Prince of Peace, the Alpha and the Omega, the King of Kings and the Lord of Lords.
Please read below some of the Scripture texts that reveal who Jesus is:
• In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. John 1:1 (NKJV)
• For to us a Child shall be born, to us a Son shall be given; And the government shall be upon His shoulder, And His name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
Isaiah 9:6 Amplified Bible (AMP)
• “For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him may not perish but may have eternal life.

• Jesus replied to them, “I am the Bread of Life. The one who comes to Me will never be hungry, and the one who believes in Me [as Savior] will never be thirsty [for that one will be sustained spiritually].
John 6:35 Amplified Bible (AMP)
• He who believes in Me, as the Scripture has said, out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.”
John 7: 38 (NKJV)
• Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.
John 14:6 (NIV)
• When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”
John 8:12 (NIV)
Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Before Abraham was, I am.
John 8:58 (KJV)
• I am the good shepherd, and I know My own and My own know Me, even as the Father knows Me and I know the Father; and I lay down My life for the sheep. I have other sheep, which are not of this fold; I must bring them also, and they will hear My voice; and they will become one flock with one shepherd. For this reason the Father loves Me, because I lay down My life so that I may take it again. No one has taken it away from Me, but I lay it down on My own initiative. I have authority to lay it down, and I have authority to take it up again. This commandment I received from My Father.”
John 10:14-18 New American Standard Bible (NASB)
• Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die; and whoever lives by believing in me will never die. Do you believe this?”
John 11:25,26 (NIV)
• The Son is the radiance and only expression of the glory of [our awesome] God [reflecting God’s [a]Shekinah glory, the Light-being, the brilliant light of the divine], and the exact representation and perfect imprint of His [Father’s] essence, and upholding and maintaining and propelling all things [the entire physical and spiritual universe] by His powerful word [carrying the universe along to its predetermined goal]. When He [Himself and no other] had [by offering Himself on the cross as a sacrifice for sin] accomplished purification from sins and established our freedom from guilt, He sat down [revealing His completed work] at the right hand of the Majesty on high [revealing His Divine authority],
Hebrews 1:3 Amplified Bible (AMP)
• I am the Living One; I was dead, and now look, I am alive for ever and ever! And I hold the keys of death and Hades.
Revelation 1:18 New International Version (NIV)
• Then I looked, and I heard around the throne and the living creatures and the elders the voice of many angels, numbering myriads of myriads and thousands of thousands, saying with a loud voice,
“Worthy is the Lamb who was slain,
to receive power and wealth
and wisdom and might and honor and glory and blessing!”
Revelation 5:11-12 (ESV)
I hope this article on 'Who is Jesus?' has been quite enriching and beneficial to you. God bless you as you meditate on his Word.

Celebrating the Joy of the Resurrection
By Hepsi
Easter is a joyous celebration of life – life eternal, abundant and victorious.
Supernatural and Natural
The life of Jesus, the Son of God on the earth simply amazes me. He is both God and man. Conceived by the Holy Spirit of a humble virgin, he lived obedient to his earthly parents, Mary and Joseph, supporting his family as a carpenter in his town for many years into his manhood. He was around 30 years old when he started his ministry. His teaching was the greatest, his miracles mind-blowing, he silenced the wind and waves with a single command. His power-packed ministry lasted three years. He taught of the kingdom of heaven through neat parables. He said: “I am the bread of life. He who comes to me will never go hungry, and he who believes in me will never be thirsty.” John 6:35.
Eventually, Jesus was betrayed, falsely accused and crucified on a crude wooden cross. He hung on the cross bleeding for about six hours. Why did he suffer so much? It’s good to ponder. While he was bleeding and dying on the cross, suffering excruciating pain, he continues to do good. He hands his mother, Mary, over to his beloved disciple, John, to care for her. You see the compassion and faithfulness of Jesus until the end. He was crucified between two criminals; when one of them repents of his sin, Jesus offers him hope and life with the words: “today you will be with me in paradise.” Luke 23: 43. After Jesus died on the cross, he was taken down and buried, but the grave could not hold him, for on the third day he was resurrected. His spirit returned to his human body, and his wounds had healed. In his supernatural resurrected body, he appeared to his disciples and followers. The amazed disciples touched him and felt his scars! After 40 days on earth, he ascended into heaven in his resurrected form in full view of his disciples. He had promised to return to his followers the same way. Jesus, the Son of God had accomplished his mission for which he came to the earth. He not only conquered death and Satan, he had set us free from sin, sickness, fear, and bondages. He assured his followers of eternal life. He reconciled man with God. The life of Jesus fills you with holy awe!
Unspeakable Joy
Joy is a gift that every believer in Jesus receives.
The resurrection of Jesus that first Easter morn brought unspeakable joy to his disciples, followers and family who also became his witnesses to the world. One woman’s story stands out to me. She went to see Jesus’ dead body but ended up seeing the risen Jesus face to face! Just before sunrise on the third day, Mary Magdalene and the other women who had followed Jesus, went to the tomb to wash Jesus’ body. But when they reached the tomb, they saw the tomb open and Jesus’ body gone. An angel with clothes like lightening appeared and told the frightened women that Jesus isn’t dead anymore, he is alive. Mary Magdalene ran all the way to the city to tell the disciples the great good news. A little later Jesus himself appears to Mary Magdalene and calls her by name. Imagine her joy!
A bit before Jesus’ crucifixion, he had raised Lazarus to life who had been dead four days. He said to Martha, Lazarus’ sister: ‘I am the resurrection and the life. Anyone who believes in me will live, even though they die; and whoever lives by believing in me will never die.’ John. 11:25,26. After saying these words Jesus raised Lazarus from the dead much to the amazement of the onlookers. Jesus demonstrates his mighty power over death. There was great joy in the household of Lazarus that day.
For a moment, let us picture the joy of Jesus’ friends and disciples at their teacher’s resurrection. Imagine the joy of Mary, the mother of Jesus! Her heart had broken at the crucifixion of Jesus but had immediately healed at his glorious resurrection! What unspeakable joy was theirs that day, and it is also ours today! Jesus had conquered death once and for all. What amazing good news that we can live forever because of Jesus’ glorious resurrection. And how wonderful it is to enjoy abundant life each new day because our Saviour lives! Jesus said, “I came that they may have life, and have it abundantly.” John 10:10. Indeed God sent his beloved Son to save us. ‘For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.’ John 3:16.
Easter celebrates the overthrow of death and the arrival of eternal life and joy that God originally intended for us. Glory to Jesus.
‘The most fundamental Christian reality is not the suffering of the cross but the life it brings’, writes Roberta Bondi in her book, Memories of God. ‘Jesus did not die to bring death to the world, but to establish the life God intended for us from the beginning. The foundation of the universe for which God made us, to which God draws us, and in which God keeps us is not death, but joy.’ “The joy of the Resurrection renews the whole world.”
Let us contemplate on the words of several significant people around the world on the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ:
- It ought to be placed in the forefront of all Christian teaching that Christ’s mission on earth was to give men Life. I am come, He said, that ye might have Life, and that ye might have it more abundantly. And that He meant literal Life, literal spiritual and Eternal Life, is clear from the whole course of His teaching and acting. -Henry Drummond
- Because of the empty tomb, we have peace. Because of His resurrection, we can have peace during even the most troubling of times because we know He is in control of all that happens in the world. -Paul Chappell
- “I know the resurrection is a fact, and Watergate proved it to me. How? Because 12 men testified they had seen Jesus raised from the dead, then they proclaimed that truth for 40 years, never once denying it. Every one was beaten, tortured, stoned and put in prison. They would not have endured that if it weren’t true. Watergate embroiled 12 of the most powerful men in the world-and they couldn’t keep a lie for three weeks. You’re telling me 12 apostles could keep a lie for 40 years? Absolutely impossible.” ― Charles Colson
4. God proved His love on the Cross. When Christ hung, and bled, and died, it was God saying to the world, ‘I love you.'
– Billy Graham
5. The resurrection completes the inauguration of God's kingdom. . .. It is the decisive event demonstrating that God's kingdom really has been launched on earth as it is in heaven. The message of Easter is that God's new world has been unveiled in Jesus Christ and that you're now invited to belong to it.”
– N.T. Wright
6. A man who was completely innocent, offered himself as a sacrifice for the good of others, including his enemies, and became the ransom of the world. It was a perfect act.
– Mahatma Gandhi
7. In short, I didn't become a Christian because God promised I would have an even happier life than I had as an atheist. He never promised any such thing. Indeed, following him would inevitably bring divine demotions in the eyes of the world. Rather, I became a Christian because the evidence was so compelling that Jesus really is the one-and-only Son of God who proved his divinity by rising from the dead. That meant following him was the most rational and logical step I could possibly take.
– Lee Strobel
8. Outside of the cross of Jesus Christ, there is no hope in this world. That cross and resurrection at the core of the Gospel is the only hope for humanity. Wherever you go, ask God for wisdom on how to get that Gospel in, even in the toughest situations of life. - Ravi Zacharias
9. Before the Resurrection of Christ, the Holy Spirit came upon individuals only on certain occasions for special tasks. But now, after the Resurrection, Christ through the Holy Spirit dwells in the heart of every believer to give us supernatural power in living our daily lives.
– Billy Graham
10. Salvation is the root–the resurrection is the fruit. – T.D. Jakes
11. The five women of Jalapa are the women standing under the cross. They speak for us that divine prayer: “Father, forgive them, they do not know what they are doing.” Luke 23:34. They are the voices of the dying Christ speaking of new life being born in suffering. No hatred, no revenge, no lashing out in anger, but repeated words of forgiveness, words that create unity and community. As these words were spoken the women of Nicaragua and the men and women of North America became one people. They embraced one another, cried together and said over and over again, “Peace, peace, peace be with you.” As that was taking place. I and many of us had a glimpse of the resurrection. The risen Christ, the Christ who came to take our sins away by his death, rose to make us into a new body, a new community, a new fellowship, a church. (“Forgiveness and Resurrection at Jalapa,” A Restless Soul-Meditations from the Road – Henri J.M. Nouwen)
Ultimate Victory
Jesus won a significant victory through his death and glorious resurrection. Since Jesus won the victory for us, we as his believers face no more defeat. You can overcome any obstacle and emerge victorious in Jesus. Whatever your status, color or community you may be, you can surely live a life of complete victory with Jesus Christ at the centre of your life.
“The joy of the Resurrection renews the whole world.”
HAPPY EASTER!
On Jesus’ Prayer for Unity
Do you know that Jesus prayed for our unity?
Jesus prayed to the Holy Father (God the Father) the night before he was crucified. See John chapter 17. He prayed that the believers would be united as one. Jesus prayed about a spiritual unity. He compares the unity of the Church with the unity he had with the Father. Jesus was one with the Father. They were united by the Spirit. God is Trinity – Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
God the Father and his Son, Jesus, were eternally bound together with divine love. “I and the Father are one” John 10:30.
Once Philip, one of the disciples asked Jesus to show him the Father. Jesus said, “Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father.” John 14:9. The Church is called to have this same type of spiritual unity with one another, we need to be united together with the same Spirit and have the same kind of divine love.
Jesus’ Prayer
“Holy Father, protect them by the power of your name, the name you gave me, so that they may be one as we are one…that all of them may be one, Father, just as you are in me and I am in you. May they also be in us so that the world may believe that you have sent me. I have given them the glory that you gave me, that they may be one as we are one…I in them and you in me – so that they may be brought to complete unity. Then the world will know that you sent me and have loved them even as you have loved me. “John 17:11, 21-23.
A reputed preacher once said: The mind of Christ is the mind of Unity. How true!
Hear the words of the apostle Paul: I therefore, a prisoner for the Lord, beg you to lead a life worthy of the calling to which you have been called, with all lowliness and meekness, with patience, forbearing, one another in love, eager to maintain the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. There is one body and one Spirit, just as you are called to the one hope that belongs to your call, one Lord, one faith, one baptism, one God and Father of us all, who is above all, and through all and in all. Ephesians 4:1-6.
Therefore, God is calling us to live in unity in his body. We are aware of the happenings around the world. It is good to remind ourselves that we are closer than ever to the Second Coming of Jesus Christ. And, the Lord wants unity in his body. There is a great need for the believers of Christ to be united and strong. Jesus had removed all the barriers. God loves us all the same. Now, we, the believers need to pray and strive for unity.
Scripture for Meditation: Jesus said: “Now learn this lesson from the fig tree: As soon as its twigs get tender and its leaves come out, you know that summer is near. Even so, when you see all these things, you know that it is near, right at the door.” Matthew 24: 32-33.

A Revelation
"God's word is in every sense a revelation. It opens up for us the truth about God, about our world and about ourselves. And so we praise God for his revealed truth."
Christian Meditation: On the Joys of Meditation
By Hepsi
What is Christian meditation? Why is it important?
I cannot call myself a Christian if I don’t engage with the Bible. I like to read Scripture, meditate on a passage or two, and dwell on a few verses daily. I make time for devotions. Sometimes I hear Scripture through audio tapes/ CDs/ preachers and take notes. As a believer it’s important I meditate on God’s Word; this spiritual discipline renders tremendous benefits for my soul. It makes me strong in faith, fills me with wisdom, peace of mind and heart. Besides, the meditation of Scriptures helps me pray.
Over the centuries, Christians have meditated on the Scriptures to their great advantage receiving spiritual direction, discernment, to lead wholesome lives. Christian believers today, however, have pushed aside reading Scriptures in a busy, fast-paced world. When we neglect Scriptures we are missing something vital. People might put off Scripture on various grounds. Some totally may not have the time. Others think Scriptures are old fashioned or outdated. However, Christians usually get upset by religious people who sometimes use Scripture as a rod of chastisement. Did someone use Scriptures to criticize you? Well, you are not alone; we all have been through it. This trend unfortunately continues among Christians. As a result many shy away from Scriptures. However, in reality Scriptures reveal a loving God who desires a relationship with people. Relationships are important to God as well as humans. Read the story of creation in the book of Genesis. How do I know God loves and cares for me? Follow Jesus’ life in the four gospels; notice how he treats each and every individual with love and compassion.
St. Augustine, the early church Father in his book, The Confessions writes: ‘You stir man to take pleasure in praising you, because you have made us for yourself, and our heart is restless until it rests in you.’ I find only God can fill the emptiness in my life and give me a purpose for living. God’s unfailing, unconditional love attracts me. You may respond to his love or not, but he still loves you. The pleasures of the world pull at you, there are many, but they cannot fill that void in your life. Only God can satisfy us and give meaning to our existence. Scriptures provide answers to key questions, and healthy guidelines to enjoy a rich, fruitful life on earth. Friend, rest assured God is not after you with a stick! He draws you to himself with cords of love. God reveals himself through his beloved Son, Jesus Christ. Let’s discover our loving God through Scriptures. Try meditating on the Scriptures at your own pace. I suggest you begin with the gospels. Read stories of Jesus interacting with all people – women, men, children, Samaritans, lepers, beggars, Pharisees, rich, poor, etc. Read a version of the Bible you are comfortable with including Children’s Bibles.
Be blessed!

Christian Meditation: God’s Word is Timeless
-By Hepsi
Living in an Imperfect World
We live in an imperfect world where things can go terribly wrong, but since God in his love redeemed us through his Son, Jesus Christ, we can live with great hope. God gives us the ability to change, grow and excel.
I’m not perfect. Nobody is. It’s no use beating yourself up trying to be perfect. God alone is perfect. Yet, we should strive for perfection. The Bible is packed with imperfect characters that eventually emerge victorious. Jacob cheated, Moses stammered, and Jonah had a bad temper.
God loves both you and me. He accepts you just the way you are. Jesus says: Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened... you will find rest for your souls. Matthew 11: 28-29. The promise holds good for all time for all people. God’s Word is timeless bringing hope and comfort to people generation after generation. How do I know? It’s via the Scriptures. If I like to know something I search it. Jesus says if you seek you will find. Moreover, stories of faith have been handed down to us by past generations that had lived the faith.
Who Made God?
I enjoy narrating Bible stories to children. A child might ask: Who made God? The answer is “Nobody made God.” “God simply IS.”
In the Old Testament, you will find stories of God’s mighty power. God the Father is Yahweh in Hebrew. God reveals himself as the “I AM.” He introduced himself to Moses as “I AM THAT I AM.” Exodus 3: 14. When God sent Moses as prophet and leader to deliver the children of Israel from the bondage of the Egyptians, Moses feared that the Israelites would not believe him. When Moses asked God, “Who shall I say sent me?” God’s weighty answer was: “Tell them...I AM has sent you.” God is good at being God!
God Reveals His Son
God chose to reveal himself through his Son, Jesus Christ, in the flesh. The Holy Trinity is one God in three persons – God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. In the New Testament, Jesus assured the grieving Martha whose brother Lazarus had died that Lazarus would rise again. Lazarus had already been dead four days. Martha answered, “I know he will rise again in the resurrection at the last day.” John 11:24. However, “Jesus said to her, I AM the resurrection and the life. Anyone who believes in me will live, even though they die; and whoever lives by believing in me will never die.” John. 11:25-26. Jesus then raised Lazarus from the dead much to the amazement of the onlookers. God is ever present to help people who call on him.
The New Testament records Jesus’ life, teachings, and miracles. Through his words and his actions, Jesus revealed God’s character. Jesus prayed often to his heavenly Father. Jesus calms the storm, raises the dead to life, heals the sick and delivers people by casting demons out. Jesus sets people free. Meditate on Jesus’ stories of healing and deliverance and pray consistently. Miracles still happen.
God Never Changes
God is constant. He is the same yesterday, today, and forever. GOD IS. His Word IS. HE ALWAYS IS. Meditate on the awesome stories of God’s power and direction in the lives of Bible characters – Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Joseph, Moses, Hannah, Samuel, David, Elijah, Elisha, Esther, Daniel and others. Their stories of faith and trust in God inspire us. God speaks to these men and women, and he speaks to us too. We need to be listening though. The noises of the world are loud, we may not hear his “still small voice.”
For instance, the meditation on Psalms 27 and 46 drive out worry and fear. You realize God is in control. Promises like: “Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you” is like an anchor to a troubled life. Hebrews 13: 5. We learn to take God at his word. The wonderful thing about meditating on Scriptures is that it produces faith within you. Faith that moves mountains!
Help is Nearby
God is not far away. He is with you, within you, and around you to help you when you call. Meditation on Scripture brings peace. Meditate on a passage many times. Don’t be discouraged if you don’t understand it the first time. As you meditate your faith grows and the Holy Spirit reveals the truth to you. “Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” John 8:32. You can receive your miracle. Meditate on passages of healing if you need healing. The healing of a sick woman with an incurable disease and the healing of two blind men are excellent passages on healing for meditation. Mark 5: 24-34; Matthew 9: 27-30.
God's at Work in the World Today
Post resurrection, the Holy Spirit is given. Jesus promised his followers that the Holy Spirit also known as the Spirit of truth would be given them. “But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all truth.” John 16:13. The Holy Spirit helps you comprehend Scripture as you diligently delve into it. In the Acts of the Apostles, you find the powerful work of the Holy Spirit in Jesus’ followers. The Holy Spirit is at work today transforming people in the world, drawing them to God.
Benefits of Meditation
Meditating on the Scriptures draws us into a relationship with God; it generates faith, courage, love, joy, and hope. It helps us pray better, live better. Meditating on Jesus’ miracles bring healing and freedom from bondages/barriers/addictions. We get to focus on God’s power and take our eyes off our problems, which is important. When you focus on Jesus you are saved from heart breaks and aches! Jesus saves. He gives us the abundant life. John 10:10. You can live a life of love, forgiveness, joy, meaning, purpose and good works. Knowledge of Scriptures keeps one strong while ignorance of Scriptures leaves one defenseless during trials and the storms of life. ‘Your word is a lamp to guide me and a light for my path.’ Psalm 119: 105. Be blessed!

Seven Day Devotion on the Power of the Cross of Christ -written by Hepsi
Introduction: I have written these devotions during a period of brokenness in my life. As I meditated on the cross of Christ over days, weeks and months, I emerged victoriously, so I put together these devotions. It is Seven-Day devotion. You might wish to meditate on these devotions one day at a time. Meditate to understand the power of the Cross of Jesus Christ in your life, to heal, liberate, restore and enable you to live victoriously every day. Be blessed!
Day One: God Loves You
Thanks to Jesus you can live forever! The cross is central to the Christian faith. It is not just a sacred symbol. You might wear a cross on your necklace or do the sign of the cross as you pray, which is good. However, there is a much more to the cross than that. One needs to know the real significance of the cross of Christ. The message of the cross is the foundation of Christian faith. As a believer of Jesus Christ, I like to meditate on the cross. A regular meditation of the cross of Christ helps you live in an atmosphere of victory. The meditation of the finished work of Jesus Christ on the cross is crucial for believers.
Why should we Meditate on the Cross of Christ?
Let us look at some reasons why we should meditate on the cross of Christ: First of all, it’s a cosmic event, isn’t it? Why should God come down to the earth to die for us? The God who is worshipped by millions upon millions of angelic hosts, why should he don the form of mortal man? And then of utmost significance, why did he choose to die a shameful death on a rude wooden cross?
God came down to earth to save humanity simply because he loved them. God the Father, loved us so much that he sent his only Son, Jesus, to save us. Just as you get to know the one you love, you can get to know the God who loves you through Scriptures, which reveal God’s eternal plan and purpose to save mankind from death and evil. God’s good plan for us was to grant in Jesus, salvation and everlasting life of joy. When we believe in Jesus and confess our weaknesses and failings to him, he forgives us. Jesus came to save us from our sins, but that’s not all. There is more. The four books, Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John, written by the eyewitnesses of the human Jesus, unravel the life story of Jesus on earth. The other books of the New Testament such as the letters of Apostle Paul, other general letters plus the book of prophecy, Revelations, continue to expound God’s amazing plan of salvation to all people. Therefore, as a child looks up to the father or mother, we need to look up to God our Heavenly Father.
Bible says, “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life,” John 3:16. God sent his Son to the earth in the Jewish lineage to extend salvation to all people. It is God’s sacrificial love for humans that we see in Jesus hanging on the cross. Through Jesus’ sacrificial death on the cross and his resurrection on the third day, he had accomplished the work of delivering humans from death, sin, sickness, and bondages caused by the enemy. On the rude Roman cross, Jesus poured out his precious blood for us. Out of his thorn-pierced brow and nail-pierced hands and feet flowed his holy blood for our redemption. His blood covers our sin and puts us in right standing before God. We are cleansed and covered by his precious blood. His pain was for our gain. God’s love for us is beyond description. Bible says, “This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him. This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins. 1 John 4: 9,10. Therefore, there is power in the message of the cross. We need to grasp it.
Scripture Verses for Meditation today:
'For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.' John 3:16.
'This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him. This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins.' 1 John 4: 9,10.
Day Two: Saved by His Grace
Do you know we are saved by God’s grace alone? When you meditate on the cross you understand God’s great love for you personally.
Bible says, ‘God...made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions – it is by grace you have been saved...For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith – and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God –Ephesians 2:5,8. Grace is the unmerited favor of God. We don’t deserve God’s love, but God in his grace saved us. Isn’t that amazing?!
Perhaps you are broken emotionally or sick in your physical body. Friend, God loves you. He will meet your need. His love never fails. People may fail you, but God will see you through. Place your trust in him. God is love itself. Jesus our loving Savior, is the embodiment of love who pursues us, draws us to himself. Seek him and you will find him. Bible says, “Very rarely will anyone die for a righteous person... But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”Romans 5:7,8. Therefore, Jesus’ blood is powerful, we cannot take it lightly. Meditate on the sacrificial love of God for you today.
We don’t deserve his love and we will never be able to earn his love either. It was by his grace that we were saved. We are not saved by our good deeds, but by his grace. Through the blood of Jesus we are redeemed, cleansed, sanctified, and justified. It is through the blood of Jesus you are set free from sin and effects of sin to live a life of love, purity, unity, joy, peace, and fulfillment in life.
Although we strive to do good often we fail, we end up doing things that displease God. Yet we have hope in Jesus. Bible says, “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and all are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus.” Romans 3: 23, 24. Each day you can boldly go to the Lord seeking forgiveness and peace. You can lay your problems at the foot of the cross, receive new strength. It takes a minimum of 15 minutes each day to talk to Jesus. We talk a lot more on our phones.Talk to him about your problems, he is listening. He will see you through this day remarkably. You may like to say out loud: “God is good”, “God is love”, “Jesus Saves” and “Jesus never fails.” Try it. It builds your faith. Also remember that Satan, the enemy of God, is defeated and rendered powerless by Jesus Christ’s blood shed on the cross for us.
Scripture Verses for Meditation:
“Very rarely will anyone die for a righteous person... But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”Romans 5:7,8.
‘God...made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions – it is by grace you have been saved...For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith – and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God –Ephesians 2:5,8.
Day Three: What Jesus Offers You
Jesus offers freely to anyone who receives him salvation, deliverance, healing, love, joy, peace, hope, and more. In short, he gives you total restoration in life. He gives you a new beginning! He promises his children abundant life on earth and eternal life in heaven. Whether you are broken financially, emotionally, physically or spiritually, Jesus offers you hope. Jesus loves you. He cares for you. He will meet all your needs as he had promised in Scripture. Apostle Paul says: “My God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus.”Philippians 4:19.
God can meet any need you have. As a manufacturer knows the vehicle he has built and the ways to fix it, so also God knows how to fix our problems since he is both our Creator and Savior. Talk to Jesus in prayer tell him all your problems and enjoy the tremendous peace he offers. Jesus came to fix broken lives. He comforts the brokenhearted like no one does. People are broken in many ways today – financial lack, unemployment, broken homes, addictions, loss, fear, etc. You can go to Jesus. He is our refuge and strength. Talk to him in the quietness of your suite; he will fill you with his peace, that no one else can give. Repentance and confession on a regular basis are also necessary for our walk with God for greater rewards. We are often guilty of not loving people the way we should. We are guilty of selfishness, anger, unforgiveness, greed, jealousy, and more. When we confess, God forgives us. It is then we begin to bear fruits in our lives. Bible says: ‘But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.’ Galatians 5:22,23. You see, we are called to be 'the light of the world' where we are!
Jesus said to his followers, “You are the light of the world.” You can live a life of good deeds and enjoy healthy relationships by walking with Jesus. It is God’s plan for us.
The following prayer pattern is quite helpful. I call it ACTS:
A for Adoration, C for Confession, T for Thanksgiving, and S for Supplication.
God invites us to come to him boldly. So we go to his throne of grace. We praise and worship him for who he is. He is God. We are not. Then we confess our limitations and weaknesses to him. He graciously pardons us. He helps us to live better when we look up to him daily. Then we thank him for his blessings in our lives. There is so much to be thankful to God – Food, clothing, home, people and fresh air, etc. Gratitude is very important. Finally, we place our supplications or our needs before his throne of grace. God will meet all our needs. Sometimes we need to wait on him. He heals, provides and restores us. “Jesus declared: I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never go hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty.” John 6: 35.
Scripture Verses for Meditation:
“My God will meet all your needs according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:19.
‘But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.’ Galatians 5:22,23.
Day Four: Jesus’ Accomplishments on the Cross
What did Jesus accomplish on the Cross?
Through his sacrificial death on the cross and his glorious resurrection, Jesus made the following possible:
· Jesus released us from sin and its consequences
· Jesus restored and reconciled us to God, to enjoy full fellowship with God.
· Jesus released us from all the bondages inflicted on us by the enemy.
· Jesus made the provision to meet all of our needs
· Through Jesus we are able to boldly go to God. Yes, we can go to God’s throne of grace to receive from him all that we need.
Bible says: ‘For by one offering He has perfected forever those who are being sanctified.’ Hebrews 10:14. No other sacrifice is necessary. Through Christ’s atonement on the cross, full provision has been made for us, so we may boldly, with confidence, go to God and thereby receive all that we need from God. But you must appropriate it by faith. Bible also says: ‘Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.’ Hebrews 4:16.
As we meditate on Scriptures promise by promise, passage by passage, story by story, we grow in our spiritual walk, we are empowered. The miracles that took place in the stories of Jesus when he walked the earth will happen today. The practice of fixating your eyes on Jesus and his redemptive work on the cross helps you live continually in faith and victory no matter what your circumstances in life might be. You can live in 100 percent victory 100 percent of the time! Bible says, “...In all things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us.” Romans 8:37. Yes, Jesus paid the price on the cross of Calvary to set us free. He won the victory. Where Jesus is, there's victory. Jesus always wins! Give him your worship and adoration for He deserves All the glory.
Scripture Verses for Meditation:
‘In all things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us.’ Romans 8:37.
‘Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.’ In Hebrews 4:16.
Day Five: Jesus Overcame Death
What was the suffering on the cross like for Jesus?
The great hymn writer Isaac Watts in his hymn, “When I survey the Wondrous cross captures Jesus’ love for us on the cross poignantly in these lines:
“See, from his head, his hands, his feet,
Sorrow and love flow mingled down.
Did e’er such love and sorrow meet,
Or thorns compose so rich a crown?
Were the whole realm of nature mine,
That were a present far too small.
Love so amazing, so divine,
Demands my soul,
My life, my all.
Jesus died, was buried and rose again the third day. Jesus had conquered the grave! Apostle Paul writes about the resurrection of Christ in his letter to the Corinthians: “Death has been swallowed up in victory.” “Where, O death, is your victory? Where, O death, is your sting?” A bit before he went to the cross, Jesus tells Martha (sister of Lazarus):
“I am the resurrection and the life. Anyone who believes in me will live, even though they die; and whoever lives by believing in me will never die.”John 11:25. What good news! Many years ago, my devout earthly father passed away, these words were engraved on his gravestone in our native language. Reading which filled me with great hope that I’d meet him again! Therefore as believers of Jesus, we understand when dear ones depart from us, they will be in heaven. Jesus was crucified between two criminals; out of the two, one repents saying, “Jesus remember me when you come into your kingdom.” Jesus replies, “Truly I tell you, today you will be with me in paradise.” Jesus assures us of heaven. Place your faith and trust in him. God is faithful. Imagine the great rejoicing in heaven when we get to meet our loved ones again!
Scripture Verse for Meditation:
“I am the resurrection and the life. Anyone who believes in me will live, even though they die; and whoever lives by believing in me will never die.”John 11:25.
Day Six: Jesus Defeated the Devil
On the cross, Jesus uttered the words “It is finished” which means that Jesus came to defeat Satan, the enemy of God, and to break his hold on us (God’s people). Jesus came to save us that is, to set us free completely. When Jesus said, “It is finished,” it means Satan is defeated and stripped of its powers and he is rendered powerless in your life. What an incredible victory Jesus had won for us, God’s people!
Did you know Jesus sets us free from our sins as well as our sicknesses? In the story of the paralytic man, Jesus forgives the man’s sins first and then heals his physical body. The story found in Luke 5, is amazing proof of Jesus’ power to forgive sins and heal sicknesses.
You may ask, why then are people still suffering from sicknesses of sorts? In the gospels, we read Jesus went about ‘doing good’ during his life on earth. People came to him for healing, he healed them. Till date, Jesus heals if you go to him for healing. It worked for me, it will work for you. Faith works. Faith is opposite of fear. Jesus is the ‘Great Physician.’ He is still the greatest of all physicians. Claim God’s promises of healing or protection you need. There are many in the Bible. Claim the promise, “by his wounds, we are healed." 1 Peter 2:24 for physical healing. Believe. God answers prayer.
Jesus brings total restoration to people. Sin, death, sickness, and bondages of every kind caused by the enemy have lost their hold on us. All of these have lost their hold on you. So for instance, you can tell lack or sickness, “Get out of my life in Jesus’ name.” It has to leave. Jesus’ name is very powerful. Sickness has to leave your body in Jesus’ name. Bible says, ‘since the children have flesh and blood, he too shared in their humanity so that by his death he might break the power of him who holds the power of death—that is, the devil.’ Hebrews 2: 14,15. Bible also says: “Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” John 8:32. There is power in Jesus’ name and there is power in the precious blood of Jesus shed for us. There is great power in the message of the cross.
Scripture Verses for Meditation:
“by his wounds, we are healed." 1 Peter 2:24
“Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” John 8:32.
Day Seven: Benefits Jesus Won for You
We can never thank Jesus enough for the benefits he had won for humanity on the cross. He carried our sins, bore the pain, through his sacrificial death on the cross and his resurrection, he grants us eternal life. Since he took the punishment for our sins, we can enjoy a victorious life –both abundant life and everlasting life. God is so good. King David who had experienced God’s great love and forgiveness, praises God in the Psalms: ‘For as high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is his love for those who fear him.’ Psalm 103:11. God’s love for us is limitless.
Let us look at some promises Jesus gave us. He said, "The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full. John 10:10. Jesus also says: "Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you." Matthew 7: 7. Further, Jesus assures us: “If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you." John 15: 7. With Jesus’ power within you, you will have the strength to overcome any sickness, addiction or barrier in your life. Remember Jesus won the victory on the cross? When you are in Jesus, you are a winner!
Because of what Jesus did on the cross the poor can say, “I am rich,” the weak can say, “I’m strong,” the captive can say, “I’m free,” and the one sick says, “I’m healed.” There is power in the message of the cross. Through his sacrificial death on the cross and his glorious resurrection, Jesus had finished the work of redeeming mankind. Jesus our Savior, told the Samaritan woman at the well: "...those who drink the water I give them will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give them will become in them a spring of water welling up to eternal life." John 4:14.
Scripture Verses for Meditation:
"The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.” John 10:10.
"Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you." Matthew 7: 7.
‘For as high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is his love for those who fear him.’ Psalm 103:11.

A Reflection on Love - by Hepsi
Love is a word often misunderstood and misinterpreted in our world. While love has other connotations like for instance,"Philia" is the love between friends and "Eros" relates to the flesh, the purest and highest form of love is God’s love for humans that surpasses all other forms of love. "Agape" is God's love, a sacrificial and divine love, a love that does not expect anything in return. God is the source of love. God's love is unconditional, knows no boundaries, his love never fails. What does the Bible say about love? You will find below several passages that comfort and refresh your soul guiding you in the way of love. The Way of Jesus is the way of love. Meditate on these passages on love and be blessed.

You Are Special! Celebrate Your Uniqueness
You Are Special! Celebrate Your Uniqueness
– A Ten-Day Devotion to Help You Love Yourself and Others
By Hepsi
Day One: You Have Self Worth
Did you know you are a valuable person? You are God’s masterpiece! You are the awesome creation of God! Pale, tan, dark, or gold, you are simply beautiful! Curly haired, freckled all over, you are favoured by God. You may have an accent or not; tall, medium, short, what not, you are just the way God made you. He loves you the way you are.
Say to yourself: “I am God’s masterpiece!” Friend, you have self-worth. You are not an accident, you are created by God for a purpose. However, your true self-worth comes from being rooted in God’s love, not because of your performance or appearance.
The Bible says: ‘For we are God’s handiwork created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.’ Ephesians. 2:10.
Meditate on what God says you are. You are the awesome creation of God. You are so special!
Scripture for Meditation:
For you created my inmost being;
You knit me together in my mother’s womb.
I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made;
Your works are wonderful,
I know that full well. Psalm 139:13,14
Day Two: You Are Free
You have freedom. Enjoy a life of fulfilment. The Bible calls it “Abundant Life.” The dictionary describes freedom as having liberty; able to move in any direction; not burdened by obligations. Freedom for one is freedom for all. As believers we enjoy both social and spiritual freedom. It is God’s will that we exercise our freedom and rise to our full potential. You have the freedom to wear colours of your choice, to choose your profession, to choose your friends, to pursue your dream or passion without limitation, obligation or hindrance. Freedom is to advance in your life. Nobody can stop you from pursuing your dream, or hinder your progress. Some have enjoyed that kind of freedom, which is good. However, in a world of inequalities, many haven’t, which is sad. For some hindrances and challenges stare you in the face more than others. What do you do? If you are one such do not lose hope, there is great hope in Jesus.
Jesus came to set people free from bondage. If circumstances have tied you in knots, our Lord Jesus could set you free. People might not understand you but Jesus can relate to you, he once walked the earth. Take your problems to Jesus. He will meet your need. If Jesus sets you free, believe me, you are free indeed. The Bible says, ‘Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.’ John 8:32. Christ’s power enables us. If you place your trust in Jesus Christ who came to set you free from bondage, you will enjoy the abundant life. The prophecy of Isaiah on Jesus’ mission says: ‘…He has sent me to bind up the broken-hearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners.’ Read Isaiah 61:1-2. The freedom Jesus promises is for ALL – irrespective of ethnicity, gender, status, age, or any other. Jesus came to save all people. Whoever you are you can fulfil your dream with his help. There is great hope and victory in and through Jesus. With God all things are possible.
Scripture for Meditation: …We are more than conquerors through him who loved us. Romans 8:37.
Day Three: Jesus Removed Inequalities
The Bible speaks of God as the God of justice, mercy and faithfulness. There is no partiality with him. Jesus gives valuable lessons through parables. Ponder over the parables.
A religious expert once asked Jesus a question: What must I do to inherit eternal life? Jesus told him to follow the core commandments of God which is to love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and then to love your neighbour as yourself. The religious expert then asked a second question, “And who is my neighbour?” Then Jesus narrates the parable of the Good Samaritan which is a much-loved parable in Luke 10:25-37. The Jews of the day thought the Samaritans were inferior to them. Jesus explains to the religious expert who his neighbour was pointing to a Samaritan that had rescued a man from danger showing exemplary love and kindness. Jesus opens the eyes of the self-righteous religious leader.
Through the stories of the gospels you come to understand how God through his Son, Jesus, liberates people from bondages. The Apostle Paul states, ‘There is neither Jew nor Gentile, neither slave nor free, neither male nor female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus.’ Galatians 3:28. You see Jesus had removed all the barriers. We are all equal. Jesus came to earth and changed everything. We are a new creation.
Scripture for Meditation: There is neither Jew nor Gentile, neither slave nor free, neither male nor female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus. Galatians 3:28.
Day Four: Children of God
Not only are you free, you have no inhibitions or inferiority complexes. You are free, so are your children and all the members of your household. Therefore, enjoy the abundant life Jesus gives you don’t let anyone limit your freedom. You express your freedom in life by the choice of colors you wear not the colors you are expected to wear, you pursue the profession of your choice, not what others expect you to do. Because you are free you should rise above inhibitions and restrictions. Christ has set us free, we should strive for unity within his body.
Jesus loves you. He has promised you victory in every area of your life. Hold on to his promises, wait on him. Be full of the joy of the Lord. You can be a peace maker. Be a blessing. Do the things you like to do. Challenge yourself to go forward in life. You are a child of God called to do good works. Don’t be discouraged. The Bible says: “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” You are a child of God and a capable person. Pursue your dream, fulfill your calling.
Think for a moment. Who made you? Who made your neighbour? Its the same heavenly Father. We are the children of the same heavenly Father! Therefore, we could worship together, work together, live beside one another in peace. We are called the children of God. The passage 1 John 3 exhorts us to love one another as the children of God.
Scripture for Meditation: See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called the children of God! And that is what we are! 1 John 3: 1.
Day Five: Lessons from Nature
Draw lessons from nature. Blue skies, fluffy white clouds. Trees, leaves and flowers in myriad patterns and colors, night skies studded with diamonds! Isn’t nature spectacular? Just like the richness of people around you. People are as varied as the trees, flowers, rainbows, butterflies, beasts, and birds. God is not into monotony! The Bible says after God had created the world, he sat back to enjoy all that he had made and found it all good. God’s creation is a reflection of his goodness, love, creativity and his glory. And without doubt, man and woman are the crown of God’s creation. So, live in love and wonder of God.
The English poet William Wordsworth said, nature is our teacher. Jesus, the greatest teacher, taught us lessons from nature. He asked us to observe nature, to learn lessons from birds, flowers, and trees.
No two people are similar. Even twins who look alike on the outside have different personalities. Every individual is unique and “wonderfully made”. Bible affirms it. The most common factor in life is difference. Don’t be afraid if you are different. Celebrate it. Why does the hippopotamus look different from the gazelle? Why do Zebras and tigers have stripes? We accept these beautiful creatures just the way they come. Likewise, people. Each person is special. Celebrate your uniqueness!
The pattern of the maple leaf is different from the leaves of the Black Locust or the Juniper trees. As the leaves of each tree are different and beautiful, God has given each person a different face, physique and personality. Uniqueness is beautiful! Our loving God has created people of varied hues and cultures for his glory. Look to Jesus for his Spirit guides you to love and enjoy his creation.
Jesus is the Prince of Peace; be a peacemaker. You can be a blessing to many. We are all special. Jesus often spoke in parables. Parables are short stories that teach a lesson. Try reading the parables of Jesus and ponder over them.
Scripture for Meditation: Likewise, every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit. Matthew 7:17.
Day Six: God Loves You
The Bible affirms that God loves you: you are special, valued, equal, a treasure, and you are a child of God. We are all God’s children. Isn’t that so liberating? Of utmost significance, Jesus loved us so much that he came down to the earth to save us and grant eternal life. He worked our redemption through his purposeful life, sacrificial death and glorious resurrection.
He loved you before you were born. Isn’t that amazing? The Bible provides answers to deep life questions. If you are confused search the Scriptures. Jesus said: “I am the way and the truth and the life.” John 14: 6. Jesus told the Samaritan woman at the well: “Whoever drinks the water I give him will never thirst.” John 4: 14. Jesus invites weary and broken people to come to him: You see Jesus is not an impersonal God, he is your personal Savior. You can have a relationship with God through his Son, Jesus. He promises to hold your hand and walk you through your life journey. He has promised never to leave you, never to forsake you. You are that special!
Scripture for Meditation: “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” Matthew 11:28.
Day Seven: Resist Categorization
Milk and cheese go into dairy section. Broccoli and celery into the produce section. However, humans cannot be categorized that way. Each of us are beautiful, intelligent, creative beings created in God’s own image. Never should you forget that God is your Father. He had created you, given you gifts and skills that you can use profitably. Believe in yourself and believe in others too. Never let people throw you in categories. Don’t throw people into categories. God loves all people. Give the world your best. Have a great life. We live and let live.
Creating opportunities for the growth and development of all people is important in diverse populations. Encourage your children to play and work with those who are different. Help kids to mix with everyone not stick together by culture. It makes them open-minded persons. Children love and accept easily. To love, accept and trust people is foundational to Christian teaching.
Have faith in God, have faith in people. Do not always work with people who are like you, work also with those who are not like you. Bless and be blessed.
Scripture for Meditation: “So God created human beings in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them.” Genesis 1:27.
Day Eight: Your Divine Parent
Every child born on earth is a fresh thought from God. Every child is precious whether biological or adopted. The Bible says: “Though my father and mother forsake me, the Lord will receive me.” Psalm 27:10. Jesus who loves the little children, said, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.” Matthew 19:14.
The Psalmist writes: ‘The Lord will keep you from all harm – he will watch over your life…both now and forever more.’ Psalm 121: 7,8. God’s wonderful promises never fail. ‘Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty.’ Psalm 91 is a powerful reminder of God’s protection over his children. Read it aloud to your family. Place your hope and trust in God who loves you. He has great plans for you! You are special!
Scripture for Meditation: “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” Jeremiah 29:11.
Day Nine: Your Identity
As a believer, your identity in Christ comes foremost. Everything else second. When you begin to love God, you will comprehend Jesus as both your Creator and Savior and you develop a rich relationship of love and gratitude.
Remember to love yourself as the awesome creation of God. When you love and accept yourself you can love others easily. We all need healthy self-love. When you make Christ the top priority in your life love, joy, peace and power flows through you to others. You become a better spouse/ parent/ neighbour. Giving priority to God helps us love and understand each other better. We could love communities besides our own. We develop compassion for the hurting. God enables us. God is love.
Remember you are the beloved of the Lord. And in Christ you are a new creation.
Scripture for Meditation: Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: the old has gone, the new is here! 2 Corinthians 5:17.
Day Ten: Beauty in Diversity
The body of Christ is diverse. Christianity is not defined by color, culture, or class. It’s the Way of Jesus, the Way of love. People of various cultures, colors, and languages coexist in the body of Christ. We need to respect and accept one another not discriminate our fellow human beings. To the believer, Christ is first all else secondary. Its best to give up the luxury of criticism. Cultural diversity brings variety and flavor to human society. God knew it, so he gave us cultures. No need to lose peace over the right way to eat – fork, chopsticks or fingers?
Often there is the assumption that non-westerners do not celebrate Christmas, yet, Christmas is celebrated joyfully the world over in far off Asian, African countries, India, and the Middle East. Jesus himself was a middle Eastern man. Christmas is not simply a cultural celebration of giving gifts to each other. Remembering and honoring God’s greatest gift to mankind in Jesus, his beloved Son, is of utmost significance. Jesus gave us the gift of eternal life as well as the joy of abundant life to those who put their faith and trust in him. Christmas is for everyone!
Make an effort to overcome popular misconceptions over colors. White and black are physical colors, they do not represent good and bad. Light and darkness are terms having spiritual meaning, they are not colors. Color is just outward hue and does not reveal one’s inner identity. God’s Word says, man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart. 1 Samuel 16:7. It is sad that in a world of advanced technology, the human mind has not advanced much in understanding and loving their fellow human beings. However, in God’s plan of salvation he had included all people. Glory to God.
Scripture for Meditation: ‘…and with your blood you purchased for God members of every tribe and language and people and nation, you have made them to be a kingdom and priests to serve our God, and they will reign on the earth. Read Revelation. 5:9,10.
Conclusion
God gives us all many gifts. Find out what is yours, and put it to good use while you live on earth. Also, recognize the potential in others. You might be an electrician or a preacher, use your gift for the glory of the Lord. Christ has set you free to enjoy a life of liberty and fulfillment. Enjoy God’s provision and let others enjoy it as well. Sharing and caring is important in the Christian walk. There is much joy in sharing. God wants unity in the body of Christ.
Let us be constantly aware of God’s rich promises. God has given you self worth, freedom, and equality. God loves you and calls you his beloved child. God is your heavenly Father. We are brothers and sisters in Christ. He has created you unique and special just like his varied creation, so beautiful and harmonious. Rejoice in the Lord. Say no, to self-pity. You are a brilliant thought from God. You are created in his image and have a bright future. Think positive and speak positive words. Ask God for discernment. Pray for insights into his Word.
King Solomon asked God and received great wisdom. Greater than Solomon is our Lord Jesus who said, ask and it will be given, seek and you will find. Matthew 7:7,8.
Enjoy the goodness of God’s creation and salvation, help others enjoy it as well. Rise above misunderstandings. God asks us for only two things which is, the love of God and the love of our neighbour. If we perfect these virtues we are doing the Lord’s will in our life. You are special. We are all special. God loves you. Our heavenly Father loves us all the same. God is love and God is good.
